My neighbor’s parents bought this car new in 1988. It’s got about 57,000 miles on it now, and it’s just as fantastic as you’d imagine. Every time it’s been at my neighbor’s house, I’ve missed an opportunity for a spin, but last night I finally got to take it out with him. It’s delightful. The sounds, the analog controls, the smells, everything. I don’t think I need to convince anyone though. Go drive one. Somewhere, somehow. Everyone should drive a 911 sometime in their life. I’ve now driven four, all a bit different, all just as addicting.

And anyway, it was dark, so, sorry - no more pics. It’s obviously a manual, I don’t even know if you could get an automatic. Anyway, that’s all I’ve got.

I loved these when I was a kid - normal 911s didn’t make me go insane , maybe a little more if a turbo or whale tail, but the cabrios pushed my buttons. I wanted one in white or blue with a whale tail.  I still recall the first one I saw, it was white.  I am pretty sure they were manual-only.

These are peak ‘good car’. Wins the ‘better than a Miata’ argument too.

Low mile creampuff! We had a super low mile Guards Red cabriolet just like that in recently, a far cry from my beater :). There were no automatic Carreras, to my knowledge. The later 964 got one that ruined the car , and earlier F-series 911s (and a few SCs, apparently) could be had with a Sportomatic gearbox, which was like an Autostick Beetle: a manual gearbox with a big vacuum servo to do the shifting. So it had a manual H-pattern shifter but no clutch pedal.

Indeed it is. “Unmolested” as they say. Glad you saw this post.

It is an excellent car, as you well know. That Sportomatic sounds... awful.

I hope yours is running well and getting some good use;  I’m sure it is.
